Special Earth Day Guest Essay!

Just in time for the 41st celebration of Earth Day, we are pleased to announce the publication of "A History of Lilac Phenological Observation in the United States,"a special essay by Mark D. Schwartz, Distinguished Professor of Geography at the University of Wisconsin, on the Project BudBurst website.

In his essay, Professor Schwartz describes the evolution of Lilac observation programs from the 1950s through the present. His pioneering work in this field has informed and guided the development of numerous phenology monitoring programs, including the USA-National Phenology Network, and of course, Project BudBurst.
